Arend Wissing

Owner / Head Coach

Arend has been working in the fitness industry for over 12 years, finding Crossfit in 2009 and never being able to shake the bug since. In January 2016 he opened Crossfit Dawn in the heart of Forest Gate, East London, with the aim to create a positive impact within the local community.

Arend’s main focus has been to create a box for anyone and everyone, across all ages and abilities, sincerely believing that when he isn’t seen coaching at the box, he can be found chasing around his twin toddlers, or lighting up one of his world famous BBQs.

Johannes Douglas

As a former bike courier Johannes is no stranger to being active, racing across the busy streets of London. Having been told about Crossfit by a friend, Johannes decided to give it a go in early 2016 in the hopes that it would be a good strength building method to help with his cycling training.

When his friends and family started taking note of the positive impact Crossfit was having on his life, Johannes came to the realisation that this was something that he wanted to dedicate his life to, not only as an athlete but as a coach. He is a firm believer that being physically active and strong is perfect preparation for the many challenges we’ll come across in life, from tackling health issues to leading an active life across disciplines like skiing, climbing, hiking and so much more.

He strongly believes it is the best method to keeping people healthy by teaching them about the amazing things they can to with their bodies, including lifting heavy weights, running long distances and even walking on your hands!

When Johannes isn’t at the box, he can probably be seen climbing, cycling, running or planning his next travel adventure.

Karima Adi

After working in publishing for the better part of 15 years, it was a benign brain tumour which led Karima down the Crossfit rabbit hole. Having to deal with the intense pain caused by the side effects of the tumour medication, she had to find a way to strengthen her body in order to cope. In 2014 she signed up to the first month of Crossfit and has never looked back. Within 3 months of doing Crossfit the pain had subsided.

At the insistence of several friends Karima decided to pursue Crossfit coaching and meeting CF Dawn’s head coach Arend Wissing shortly thereafter saw her ambition realised.

Karima believes that a strong body and a balanced healthy lifestyle create the best foundation to lead an active and enjoyable life. Karima’s main focus is on functional movement in order to create a strong base for any/all activities; whether it’s participating in a triathlon, carrying groceries or being chased by zombies.

Her mantra is “there is no age or physical limit to moving well and it’s never too late to start”.

Some of Karima’s favourite things are barbells, black coffee, a double cheeseburger from Bleecker St. and cropped tops.
